Fequently Asked Questions
Why a binder guide? What benefit does it have over the normal guides of the past?
The flexibility of a binder makes it a perfect fit for a game that continually changes. Unlike a traditional, bound paperback, a binder allows for endless customization and can be continuously updated with new pages. Plus, a binder just looks cool.
Is the guide separate from the binder, or does the guide actually go into the binder?
All of the pages are packaged with the binder and are pre-punched to fit easily into the binder.
Is there a discount if I want to purchase both the CoH and CoV Binder Guides?
No, but certain retailers offer a 20% discount on the binder if you purchase the binder and the game at the same time.
Will both the CoH and CoV guides fit in one binder?
You will need to purchase the binders separately, but once you do, you could certainly combine pieces from each into one all-encompassing binder. However, due to the number of pages and the capacity of each binder, you will not be able to combine both interiors, in their entirety, into one binder.
How much is the printed binder guide going to cost? Will the price be the same for the eguide?
The price for each binder is $34.99. The price for each eguide is $19.99.
I already purchased the eguide, but really like the binder. Can I buy the binder separately for my printed eguide?
At this time, the binder is only available with the retail print guide.
Will there be an updated guide without the binder?
No. The updated guide will be in binder format only.
I own the old Prima CoH guide already. Can I purchase only the Issue updates?
No. The existing Prima Guide covers Issue 1: Through the Looking Glass. The binder guide will cover Issues 1-5 and any content introduced with City of Villains. Any updates released at retail will reflect the binder content, not the original print guide content.
Being able to customize the guide sounds neat, but what exactly does that mean?
Removable, unnumbered pages allow you to insert pages in whatever order you like. Maybe you want info on your Archetype right up front for easy reference. Or maybe you are a veteran at the game and want to remove lower level content. Perhaps you've downloaded content from the web that you'd like to add to the binder. All of this is impossible with a traditional guide, but possible with our binder product.
With no page numbers, how will I know where to put updates and patch notes?
Sections will be clearly delineated so you'll know where to place new or updated content. For example, we may release a revised zone map which will require you to simply remove the existing zone map and replace it with the updated one.
How often will there be updates for the binder guide?
Updates will be timed with Cryptic's Issue releases. When they release a new Issue, expect a new update.
Will the updates be available for download or only retail purchase?
Both. Updates will be available in a downloadable format or at retail.
If I purchase the binder guide, can I then download the eguide updates later? Are the two formats compatible with each other?
They provide the same content, just in different formats. If you purchased the binder, you could certainly download the eguide updates and three-hole punch them to fit in your binder.
I just bought the printed guide, now you are trying to sell me the "updated" electronic guide. Shouldn't I get the "Update" for free?
No. If you've played other MMOGs, you know that whenever the game developer releases an expansion, we release a brand new guide that covers the expansion. We charge for it because of the investment we make to gather and deliver the content to you. However, changes to the guide that occur between the CoH major updates will be posted on the Eguide's product page for all to download free of charge.
If I provide proof that I bought the printed version, can I get the Eguide for free?
Unfortunately, no, they are two separate products.
But the game developer didn't charge for the new content, so why are you?
They charge a monthly subscription fee that covers the additional development work that it takes to constantly improve their product. We don't have that ability, nor do we feel that it would be a popular option from a consumer standpoint. However, if enough of you decide that you'd pay us 15 bucks a month for continuous updates, than we'll look into it.
What's the difference between the patch notes and the Issue Updates?
Patch notes are free updates thay usually only include missing or corrected information. They usually contain misplaced information and are intended for users who have purchased a version of the eguide or a printed guide. The latest version of our eguides usually already contain these updates along with the rest of the entire guide. Issue Updates are not free and contain entirely new content designed to bring the strategy up-to-date with the latest changes in the online game since the last release.
