Hi, a really basic question. I've killed many a dragon and have met the grey beards. I've absorbed probably 7 or 8 dragon souls. When I go to activate a shout that I acquired from a wall, I'm told that I need a dragon soul to activate. I am sure I am missing something small. Can someone please tell me wha is probably very obvious?

When you kill a dragon and absorb the soul it won't do anything until you attach it to a shout.
Next time you open your shout list and click the icon to highlight it, look to the lower left and there should be some text with a prompt that says something like this:

Do you want to spend a dragon soul on this shout?

If you answer yes it should then be equipped and ready to go. This is what you spend your dragon souls on....to power the shouts.

On other animals, humans, draugrs...etc, when you kill them and take their souls you then use those to power soul gems and use them to enchant weapons, armour...etc.
