So far, Rovio has only released a teaser trailer (see below) but USA Today has a little more information.

It seems that everyone’s favorite bird and pig rivals have taken on Star Wars characters. For a little info on how that works exactly, Lucasfilm licensing chief Paul Southern explains, “They are not Angry Birds dressed up as Star Wars characters,”

“They are characters in their own right.

“They’ve got personalities which are kind of similar.”

Red Bird has become Luke Skywalker, specifically in his X-Wing pilot phase from Episode 4. The other birds have become Chewbacca (Terrence), Han Solo (Chuck), Leia (Stella) and Obi-Wan (Bomb). You’ll be encountering a piggy Darth Vader, as well as piggy Stormtroopers, excellent.

“We wanted this to feel like one of the biggest, if not the biggest, entertainment launches of the year,” explained Rovio’s strategic partnerships chief Andrew Stalbow.

If you think this could be a great opportunity for some tie-in toys then you’re not alone; Hasbro will be producing a cool collection of accompanying merchandise. Amongst the goodies are Star Wars Angry Birds Jenga Death Star, a Star Wars Angry Birds figure pack, Star Wars Angry birds plush toys and Star Wars Angry Birds costumes by Rubie’s Costime Company.
