Sequence 6: Fortune’s Disfavor
INTO THE SHADOWS: This Memory begins when you draw close to the Memory Start marker in the Constantine district. The Janissary you seek is standing in the south of the search zone, where he can be found remonstrating with a civilian.
The area is crisscrossed with Ottoman patrols, but you can learn to predict the motions of these by observing them from a nearby roof.
You must kill the Janissary without being detected, but the Full Synch requirement specifies that you must do so from a hiding spot. To achieve this, loot the chest behind your target to acquire Cherry Bombs, then go stand beside the haystack a short walk southeast of the Janissary (Fig. 1).
Wait until the patrols have passed – there is a lone Elite who you can eliminate from this hiding spot when he walks directly by, should you wish – then throw a Cherry Bomb into the haystack. Immediately jump inside.
When the Janissary moves close to investigate, assassinate him to end the Memory.
HONOR, LOST AND WON: This Memory begins automatically on completion of the previous objective. Walk with the Janissaries through the streets. When they are assaulted by a rock-throwing civilian, beat him up with a non-lethal takedown; the rest of the journey will pass without incident.
On arrival at the compound, you face a stealth-oriented puzzle. While the Janissaries are indifferent to Ezio’s presence as long as he does not attract their attention through acts of violence, presuming him to be one of their number, the Elites are rather more vigilant.
Using hiding spots (including tents) and blend opportunities among groups of Janissaries, you must infiltrate the north section of the camp without being detected. You can find annotated screenshots that show the most convenient route.
After you have assassinated Tarik, you will find yourself surrounded by a decidedly unfavorable arrangement of furious Janissaries. Don’t try to fight them: make an immediate escape via the route on the accompanying screenshot (Fig. 2). Once on the wooden roof, leap onto the wall; from here, Ezio can just reach the building below if you hold the Empty Hand button during his descent to extend the Hookblade.
The next step is to head for the rooftop shelter hiding spot (as highlighted), then run past it and leap to the street below. Continue east until you reach the waterfront and dive in, then swim away from the shore to end the Memory...
