“We want people to insert the code they get when they buy the game to get access to [DLC]. It’s connected to your personal account, more or less, and what we want to do is give you something extra, added value, for that,” Patrick Bach, the game’s producer said when speaking to MTV.

“In the future you will get more content, for free, if you have this VIP code.”

It wasn’t confirmed by anyone at the company that the game was part of the marketing strategy, though inclusion of the code with the game release is a clear sign it is.

The Project Ten Dollar strategy’s aim is to stop people buying the game second-hand. if the game is bought second-hand then the player will have to purchase a ten dollar upgrade to get access to the content that originally came free with the game.

It was announced previously by DICE that the game would have a “long post-launch campaign”, though it’s not known how much will be given for free until another purchase is required.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is released on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC on 5th March.
