Browser game pretends to be a 1989 classic

Gearbox Studios has made a 16-bit version of Borderlands titled The Border Lands in order to promote the upcoming release of the game’s sequel.

The title is a top-down affair reminiscent of a plethora of old school arcade titles while still keeping elements of the Borderlands game proper; there are loads of weapon drops and level upgrades.

The official statements on the game all carry on like it was a 1989 classic. They are of course lies but we’ll forgive them for creating another awesome thing, and for the stupid cool press pack (pictured below) boxed floppy disk edition, which even comes with a USB floppy drive.

Claptrap had the following to say:

“Borderlands wasn’t always the slick, handsome bastard of a game it is today! Go old skool and play the 1989 16-bit original to see how it all began. I can’t believe how young I look!”
