DARKSIDERS II

Darksiders 3 Possible, Depending On Success of Darksiders 207/27/12By Robert Workman

In the rule of game sequels, there’s always room for one more... depending on the fan demand and what kind of idea a publisher has in mind for it. With Darksiders II, Vigil Games is definitely excited to show a new vision – and direction – for its ongoing series, and it could very well move beyond that if the sequel sells very well with gamers out there.

Haydn Dalton, lead designer on the sequel over at Vigil, talked with VideoGamer about the possibilities of a third chapter in the series, and he does have some ideas for it, but it really depends what kind of business the sequel can drum up.

Dalton stated that if the game manages to eke out “4 or 5 million units” in sales, THQ president Jason Rubin could easily see the possibilities for another game, giving the troubled publisher something to work towards. However, he stated that the third game would “reduce the scope so that we can make it even higher polished.” This would result in better focus and even with a smaller world, gamers should still be thrilled with the prospect.

Hey, if Saints Row the Third can push past four million units, we’re pretty sure Darksiders II can do similar business. We’ll find out when the game releases August 14th for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and later on for Wii U.

08/15/12 - I'm concerned, honestly. I'm a fan of the Darksiders Series, it's one of my favorite new IP's in a long time, right up there with Infamous and Assassin's Creed. But, the original Darksiders imperfectly perfectly flawed as it was... Flew very low under many people's radar. Granted, Darksiders 2 has had a MASSIVE commercialized campaign, and I hope it truly does help boost sales. But I'm still concerned. I'd love to see a 3rd entry into the series, but if the goal is 5 million sales?.. I'm not saying Darksiders 2 isn't GOOD enough for that number, I believe it is. It has some flaws, but all forms of games/media/art/music/anything have flaws. My concern is, even with the overhaul in marketing, even with expanding the world itself - even with the Tie-in novel The Abomination Vault {Very good book, go buy it now} Even with all of these things; Will people still simply MISJUDGE it as; "A sequel to that Mature Rated Zelda game with the Tanned Angel chick" - and not give it the credit it truly deserves? Here's hoping they don't, here's hoping people try it for themselves and decide if it's worth their time or not. God speed Darksiders, God speed Vigil Games. God speed.

08/15/12 - 4 horsemen. I hope that's the original plan and I hope they stick to it. I love 1st person shooters but I still love the rpg 3/4 view that brings me back to the early days

08/14/12 - I really hope that there is a Darksiders 3. Although with War and Death played as, it will be world playing as Famine or Pestilence.

08/13/12 - One can only hope ds3 happens.
08/08/12 - From all of the buzz I have seen and heard I would be VERY surprised if DS2 doesn't break the 4-5 million mark. But if THQ does make a 3rd Darksiders (which I really hope they do) limiting the scope would be a mistake in my opinion. You can't give more the second time around then go the cheap route in the next chapter. Exploration is key now in gaming. I believe in this franchise and I hope an eventuality will be a game with all 4 horsemen. I'm doing something I have NEVER done before because I believe in this game so much; I am actually pre-ordering the game and I didn't even pre-order God Of War.
