Before drawing his final breath, the vile Crowfather uses the last of his power to transport Death to a distant and troubled land. The Pale Rider awakens to find himself in curious surroundings with a burly, bearded giant towering over him, gently inspecting a wound that the Horseman incurred during his clash with the Keeper of Secrets. Wary of this mysterious figure, Death quickly rises to his feet and demands information about the Tree of Life, which holds the key to freeing the Reaper’s imprisoned brother, War.

With a sad laugh, the old man informs the Rider that his world is dying—a nefarious substance known as Corruption is choking the very life out of his realm. He warns Death that even the great Tree of Life will soon perish if something isn’t done...
