Last month, we published a first look at the newest entry in the Disney Infinity franchise, which primarily focuses on the Star Wars films and TV shows. However, there’s more to the game than Darth Vader, as a variety of playsets based on popular Disney franchises will be available, including the latest Avengers film, Age of Ultron, as well as Disney Pixar’s animated movie Inside Out, which releases this week.
Although we’re still waiting for details, here’s what to expect from each playset in Disney Infinity 3.0.
Twilight of the Republic: This is the playset included with the Starter Pack, which includes a portal and two playable characters – Ahsoka Tano and Anakin Skywalker from the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series. Other characters introduced in this set include Darth Maul, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda, all primary characters from the Episode 1-3 film trilogy. With this set, players will be able to relive key moments from those movies, from the epic battle against the Republic to the eventual rise of the Empire, with Anakin (aka Darth Vader) firmly in charge.
Rise Against the Empire: For those who prefer the original Star Wars trilogy, the Rise Against the Empire playset is ideal. The core set will include Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia. In addition, other characters will be available, including Han Solo, his Wookiee co-pilot Chewbacca and Darth Vader. This particular set will feature events from the original A New Hope film through Return of the Jedi, with the possibility of fighting enemies like the legendary Boba Fett.
The Force Awakens: This playset is shrouded in secrecy, since it’s based on the forthcoming film of the same name, due this December. You should be able to use characters from Rise Against the Empire, since they appear in the film as well, along with new characters like Finn (a Stormtrooper), Rey (the female scavenger from Jakku), Poe Dameron (a heroic X-wing pilot) and maybe even the vile Kylo Ren, a dangerous new Sith character. More details on this set should be unveiled as we get closer to the film’s release.
Inside Out: Based on the Disney Pixar movie, this playset takes place inside the mind of a young girl, Riley, where five key emotions – Joy, Anger, Fear, Disgust and Sadness – must work together to keep things in order after she falls asleep after watching a scary movie. Each individual character brings something to the table, whether it’s Joy’s spark attacks or Anger’s fiery rage charges. Joy and Anger will be included in the core set, with other Emotions available separately.
Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron: Based on the blockbuster summer film of the same name, Age of Ultron is the latest expansion to the universe introduced last year with Disney Infinity 2.0: Marvel Super Heroes. Details haven’t been revealed, but a number of figurines from last year’s set, including the core Avengers and Nick Fury, should be compatible. New characters are likely to be introduced as well, including Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch and Vision. This one should arrive sometime in the fall alongside the film’s home release, or shortly thereafter.
Other characters: Disney Infinity 3.0 will also release stand-alone characters that can be utilized in the game’s Toy Box mode, consisting of two key components – Takeover, where you can build your own action adventure levels; and Speedway, where racing levels can be made. These characters include Sam Flynn and Quorra from Tron: Legacy, Mulan from the animated film of the same name, Olaf from the hit movie Frozen and Mickey and Minnie Mouse.
Each of the playsets will come with a pre-set story mode, with a variety of missions to complete with each character, along with access to the Toy Box, where users can create their own custom levels. There’s also a Farming option available for certain levels, where players can plant and grow their own crops, in an effort to assist sidekicks helping the main characters.
