Game guides trying not to spoil the game?03/30/12By KenLivingston

Why have game guides gotten away from "spoiling" when it comes to the game? I remember back in the 90s when I would get a game guide, it would give you every little detail to the game, up to and including the ending cut-scene dialog! But guides now tend to say stuff like "And then .... well, just wait and see!" and I find that to be a major cop-out. I am not buying the guide to "hold my hand" only to let me go at the end.

Also, I still have the strategy guide from Master of Magic (which was an awesome strategy game) and the guide contains so much data on the inner workings on the game and the formulas the game uses for the various units. Why do most game guides now no longer include the in-depth stuff?

03/30/12 - Even presenting the story in advertisements trailers could spoil the game, the less you know the better the game surprise would be, at least my opinion..

03/30/12 - I feel that a mature individual should assume that a game guide will have spoilers. It's the nature of the beast. TES guides haven't shied away from them in their guides, but it is laudable that they've provided warnings.
03/30/12 - There are a couple of reasons for this (and I’m speaking in general terms – this isn’t necessarily related to the Skyrim guide). Firstly, some companies don’t want “spoilers” to be revealed. These are confines we sometimes have to work within. Secondly, some guide-book readers don’t like spoilers shown, and they make this extremely clear, and sometimes over-use the Caps Lock to press this point home. I’m partial to the approach shown in the Skyrim guide: The book contains spoilers, but these are flagged with an appropriate icon. It was extra work, and it annoyed a tiny proportion of readers, but I try to make the guides I work on as complete as possible.
