11/27/11 - Just leave the cave and He'll be outside.

11/17/11 - Maybe you already have a companion/follower?

11/17/11 - If you already have a companion, they won't follow you. They'll say something like, "Looks like you already have someone following you." If you do have a companion already and can't find them, go back to wher eyou got them, and either tell them to follow you, or tell them it's time to part ways. If you tell them it's time to part ways, they'll still be there if you want to pick them up later.

11/13/11 - I just finished this quest myself, and I had to rescuea girl. She just kinda followed me as I ran away. If he doesn't follow you when you leave the area try resetting to a point just before you killed all bandits and try talking to the person before you kill the final guy, see if that doesn't work.

11/14/11 - i have had slight issues with followers. I received a follower as a reward from a Jarl. She followed me around fine and then i turned around and noticed that she was nowhere to be found. After some research i found that after 3 - 4 in game days your follower will give up waiting for you and go back to their normal life. They will still follow you if you go to where their normal life is and find them and ask them to follow you once more.
