Morrowind & Cyrodiil accessible in Skyrim?11/22/11By Robert Purchese

Skyrim has shipped with low-resolution versions of neighbouring regions previously seen in past Elder Scrolls games.

The secret was discovered when an explorer found a stone archway near Riften that was blocked by an invisible wall.

With some creativity, the explorer passed through this geographical boundary and into the neighbouring region of Morrowind.

There the explorer found a scaled down, low-resolution landscape, and models of Solstheim and Vvardfell.

The explorer also caught sight of central region Cyrodiil, and the Imperial City. Cyrodiil borders Skyrim to the south.

Vvardfell was the island province that The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind story took place on. Solstheim was a large, cold, northern island added in expansion Tribunal.

Cyrodiil and the Imperial City were part of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion.

DLC foundations? Maybe. Another explanation, however, is that Bethesda included these regions to fill out the 3D Skyrim world map - offering players a zoomed out, top-down glimpse at what lies yonder.

Bethesda hasn't announced any Skyrim downloadable content. When it does arrive, however, it'll be exclusive to Xbox 360 for 30 days.

01/06/12 - Well as I spent a sad few hours reading many books on the "great war" and brief history of the empire... I come to understand my passionate dislike for the thalmor elves... they remind me of some real world counterparts... but i digress.. I would love to go to vardenfel or cyrodil... or even hammerfell and kick them back some more with the awesome dragon born prowess!
12/08/11 - i would love to see morrowind again one day

11/24/11 - It's worth noting that whilst the full map, and a few of the major details, are easily explainable by the "so you can see it on the map" response, the open stone archway is harder to explain. I don't think I've ever, in all my time of playing the Elder Scrolls series, come across an open pathway into one of the bordering lands of Tamriel. It might just be Bethesda finally making it seem a little more realistic to players of the series...but it screams of DLC to me. The stone archway leaves room for Bethesda to add a location to that specific area, even if it only lets players get a little closer to Vvardenfell.

11/23/11 - Well, you kind of get to interact with Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion in a really round about way. As given the conclusion of the Shivering Isles DLC you could make an argument that you can in Skyrim interact with the 'Prisoner' protagonist assuming that the content of the Shivering Isles is 'cannon' for the ongoing Elder Scrolls meta-plot.

11/23/11 - @nefermaatra3852 The structures aren't there at all. The Morrowind/Hammerfell/Cyrodill regions are literally just the landscape, though shaped properly, with vague low quality distance-textures on them. The video in question: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PlbA2qiXsf0
11/23/11 - Wow, it would be great if we were able to go beyond the Skyrim region. But, as I reflect on it, I wonder if the 'explorer' was able to interact with any other characters or interact with the scenery in a pseudo normal way while in the Morrowind/Oblivion gateway? My hunch is that we will be able to travel there, else why would the exact structures and landmarks show up in that weird mode? Regardless Skyrim is my absolute favorite game!!!
