Skyrim’s Hearthfire DLC Adds House Building, Adoption and Gardening

Bow your own

Bethesda has announced that Skyrim’s second chunk of DLC, Hearthfire, will come to the Xbox 360 on September 4th.

The expansion costs just 400 Microsoft Points and gives players the ability to build and fit out their own homes.

With Hearthfire installed, you can buy land in your place of choosing and use raw minerals to build a house. There’s the option to add the kind of rooms you’d find in our world but there’s also room for much more magical stuff; build yourself an enchanter’s tower or an alchemy lab for instance.

You can even grow in the land outside your place or in a greenhouse, breed fish in a hatchery and for my personal favorite: keep bees (why this hasn’t been a feature in more games I don’t know).

For the collectors of rare items out there (lets face it, 99% of Skyrim players), Hearthfire’s house building feature lets you add furniture, trinkets and snazzy display cabinets.

There’s even the option to get someone in to help out with furniture making if you’re not into the idea of doing it yourself.

It seems there’s been great effort put in to improve the feeling of making your own mark in Tamriel’s Northern quarter, especially with Hearthfire’s addition of adoption. Yes, that’s right, your family can get even bigger with the help of a new adoption system.

Hearthfire allows you to hire a carriage driver, personal bard or steward to make the workload a little more manageable too.

Alas, it’s not all fun and games; one must protect a home from meddling external interferences such as giants, bandits, kidnappers and skeevers.

After a little practice you can even build a real estate empire, excellent. Take a look at the trailer below for a little taste of what’s to come.
