Microsoft Dates Free Games for Xbox Live Gold Subscribers, Begins this July

That shouldn't stop you from downloading Fable III right now.

As part of its pre-E3 press conference, Microsoft provided some good news to Xbox Live Gold subscribers, confirming that it would release free games to reward those who opt into the program.  The first two titles were also revealed – Assassin’s Creed II and Halo 3 – promising hours of gaming goodness without any dent to one’s wallet.

Turns out we won’t have to wait long.  Microsoft confirmed today that the free game program will kick off starting July 1st, with the second game to follow on July 16th.  Though it wasn’t confirmed which title would release on which day, it’s likely that Halo 3 will be up first – ideal for Master Chief fans.

“As our way of saying thanks for being part of this community, we’re giving all qualifying Gold members two free Xbox 360 games each month for the rest of the year,” said an Xbox rep.  “Each specially selected, fan-favorite game will be available to download only for a limited time, so grab them before they’re gone and keep them no matter what.”

On a side note, Microsoft already started the program by providing the RPG adventure Fable III as a free download.  You can download it here, though you’ll need about 5.6 GB of hard drive space.
