From what we’ve been hearing thus far, Halo 4 has been living up to the hype, though you’ll be able to see that in action soon enough. But it appears that Microsoft spared no expense when it came to getting the most out of the newest chapter in the series.
Speaking with the folks at Polygon, Microsoft Studios lead Phil Spencer stated that the game is “absolutely” the most expensive project that the company has ever worked on. Though no exact figures were given, Spencer stated that “Nothing’s even close.”
Joystiq drew up some interesting comparison numbers as well. Halo 3: ODST’s development costs came in at around $60 million, including the marketing budget (which is no doubt even bigger for Halo 4). However, that turned out to be a profitable move, as the game made $170 million in sales the first day alone. In fact, the franchise as a whole pumped out over $3 billion, and Halo 4 is likely to add another billion to that total.
We’ll see how the game fares when it assaults retail stores on November 6th.
