Sony Could Bring Streaming Gaikai Service to Other Devices

PlayStation 4 and PS Vita are just the beginning.

Last week, we reported that Sony would bring its PlayStation 3-related Gaikai streaming services to not only the PlayStation 4, but also the PS Vita and Vita TV devices in 2014. This week, Sony revealed that it may head to other devices as well, expanding on its appeal.

Speaking with Dengeki Online Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida explained what the company has in mind. “We previously spoke about PlayStation going from hardware to something closer to a service, regardless of the device.”

“Speaking of the ultimate goal, we would like to deliver PlayStation games to all devices,” he continued. “So we’re considering various things like PC, TVs, Blu-Ray players, smartphones and tablets. We hope to continue to expand not only to Sony devices, but even to devices other than Sony’s.”

There’s no definitive release date outside of the PlayStation 4 and Vita systems, as it’s “still being studied” by the programming team. We’ll have more info in the near future.
