Sony Re-Releasing PlayStation 3 4.45 Firmware June 27th

The fix is in.

Earlier this week, Sony attempted to update the firmware on its PlayStation 3 with new update 4.45, which would allow users to turn off Trophy notifications, among other things.  However, reports poured in that the update was “bricking” systems, making them inoperable.  As a result, Sony pulled the software.

This morning, Sony announced that it will upload the firmware again on June 27th, this time without the “bricking” issue getting in the way, as it has fixed the problem.  It made the following announcement on the PlayStation support forum.

“We have identified the issue related to the PlayStation 3 software update (version 4.45) that impacted a small number of PlayStation 3 systems earlier this week.  A new PS3 system software update is planned to be released on June 27th that resolves the issue.  Thank you for your patience and understanding and we apologize for the inconvenience.”

The firmware update will be free of charge, and will prompt automatically when you log in to the PlayStation Network the 27th.
