1.1 Introduction
Welcome to the Drivethrough! This section details proven strategies for all 32 courses. There’s a lot of information to go through, but first let’s have a look at how it’s all organized.
Course Overview
These introductions list the cup name, the course name, and a brief description of the event.
Road Hazards
Here you’ll find a summary of the course’s most prominent threats, such as rough terrain, unfenced turns, and roaming enemies.
Time Trial
The first two pages of every course detail proven tactics to get you pure speed. Although these steps were intended for the various Time Trials, they’re easily applied to the Grand Prix and multiplayer game modes. Each numbered step represents one or more suggested actions near the indicated location. When you read through this section, begin with step 1, then follow each step in order.
The Kart of Champions
Some of the world’s best kart racers have competed for the top spots in the Time Trials courses. In this box, you’ll see the character and kart combinations used by the best of the best. Keep in mind, each Kart of Champions box reflects the preferences of just one person. It’s entirely possible for you to clock an even faster time with a kart of your own design.
We swapped out a few parts to improve our own efforts, and you should certainly do the same. Experiment with new characters and parts as you unlock them until you assemble your ideal kart!
Grand Prix
Once you know the best way through a course, it’s time to bring opponents into the mix. The Grand Prix section contains recommended tactics for combat situations. Each Grand Prix tactic is assigned a letter, and the relevant location is indicated by a corresponding letter on the course map. Since these tactics generally depend on variables like item availability and opponent actions, the Grand Prix section is less rigid than the Time Trial section. Review these tactics before a race, then react to what happens on the track.
Mirror Mode
We’ve provided a map for the Mirror mode version of each track. All of the established tactics work just as well in Mirror mode, but adjusting to the new turns can take some effort. Review this map to prepare for the challenge ahead of you.
