MASS EFFECT 2

The brutal but cunning Vanguard.02/13/12By GavinSpencer

Reasons why the Vanguard is my personal favourite class to play in Mass Effect 2.

Now, there are probably far more tactical methods employed by the other classes in Mass Effect 2, some may even be more preferable on higher difficulties, but the Vanguard class is my personal favourite.

It's balls out brutality - it gets you into the epicentre of a firefight and hits hard.

The best thing to do is to split up a group of enemies with a blend of heavy pistol fire and a well placed biotic shockwave. The real icing on the cake is forcing a close encounter - nothing says "goodbye" quite like phasing through cover and introducing a foe's mug to the barrel of a Geth Plasma Shotgun. If that isn't a spectacular end to a gun battle, having high enough shields or health to dart behind cover also helps.

The shotgun proficiency also makes single enemies easy prey, a swift forearm to whatever passes for a jaw and a scattershot to chest is a satisfyingly deadly combo.

In short, the Vanguard is a fast-paced juggernaut in mid- to close range combat and, with the right armour and upgrades, a well armed, biotic force of nature.
