I use the soldier class because i believe that with Mass Effect 2 you already have everything else you need in biotic and tech experts.

As I stated in the above description, I enjoy using the soldier class above any other because it allows me to gun down the enemies with any weapon type and I already have a good selection of squad mates who have a wide verity of talents of their own. So why not put those to good use?

The start is knowing the level and their surroundings, because if you pick good squad mates and the environment is not suited to their specialty or the enemies nullify their talents then you might as well be throwing rocks at a Thresher Maw.

So if I know there are going to be lots and lots of mechs on the level I may go ahead and pick two tech experts, Mordin the scientist is my favorite for his Incinerate that can take the shields down on most mech enemies. I build this up first when i have him in my party, after that has reached it's peak then i go for cryo blast but i use it only when the shields have been drained of all enemies.

Tali is my second favorite for tech support because of her combat drone. When i deploy it against the biggest enemy it allows me to come out of cover for a longer time to take down any biotic barrier or shield and drop it quickly.

Biotics are my second chose of squad mate and they come in handy in tight situations. My favorite to use is Jacob at first because of his pull allows me to shot down an enemy at first, then when i upgrade it fully I can now shot down multiple enemies.

After I get Jack though, I prefer to use her because of her shock wave attack as well as her pull. I find that if I use the shock wave at the right angle i can get multiple targets off of their feet and allows me to just spray them down with my assault rifle.

Now when I am playing a level though I try my best to only take one of the specialist(either one tech or one biotic at a time). There are hardly any levels in the game where you would need two at the same time. This is where the other squad mates come in handy. Although there are more then enough to help you out I prefer only four of those I named already. Lets say I have a tech specialist and the place we are going to have lots of Mech's. I would prefer to use Mordin and Grunt because Grunt has such massive health and shielding that I can use him to distract the enemies as i get Mordin in place to do some damage. His concussion shot as well works wonders to dent shielding and biotics(although biotics not as much but I find the distraction pays off still also when you have husks Grunt makes a good bull dozier).

But sometimes I enjoy going old school and use Tali and Garrus to help me out when I am in need of a tech expert. This may seem odd because Garrus uses tech powers but I use him at long range with that Sniper Rifle of his and when in close combat the support that his assault rifle does with mine.

Another squad combination i enjoy using is Garrus and Grunt. This is when i just need to go in and shot everything to pieces(especially on the mission on Ilos where you are trying to get the ship coordinates for Samara).

All of this lead up to what you already know about my strategy. It all depends on who is at my side. Some levels i shot from long range to take out big enemies while i move my squad up to get close enough to use their powers. Some of the levels have it to where I need to be distant to take out the rocket enemies, other wise those can take out my mates very easily. I also enjoy using their powers to help me by distracting big enemies so that I may be able to move close and take them down faster with a shotgun blast. This helps me save my Rocket ammo for even bigger bosses(if they be ahead of me).

All in all, i find that the other classes are good and have their uses(for my first Shepard was an Biotic and I still have that save file) but i prefer to use my squad mates to do the pretty stuff while I take care of business with my guns.
