Among Mass Effect 2's classes, my favorite is the Vanguard, thanks to its highly flexible Charge technique.
The Vanguard's Charge move is unique in that it allows you to instantly move unhindered through the battlefield, thus making it excellent for both offensive and defensive guerrilla strikes. After taking in the battlefield situation (using the HUD/Power Wheel if you're not skilled with real time assessment), locate the enemy farthest from your location, preferably with a clear path and good cover nearby. Charge to the enemy and dispatch him quickly with a melee attack or point blank shotgun round. Grab cover if you're in immediate danger. Otherwise, you are now in a position to create an effective pincer attack against your enemies, utilizing your allies. Take them down with shots, or even better, use the Vanguard's biotic talents to render your enemies helpless against your allies onslaught.
From your new position, you should be firing from your enemies' uncovered side, so you will likely be able to take them down in minutes. However, if things aren't going well (say, another wave comes and you find yourself surrounded), remember that hit and run tactics are the Vanguard's bread and butter. Your Charge can be used to zoom you to the edge of the battlefield in an instant where you can heal. If enemies stand in your way, your charge/melee, shotgun and biotic abilities are all excellent for incapacitating enemies long enough to secure an escape route. Once you have Heavy Charge, slow down, etc, these tactics become even easier. Controlling the battlefield will be second nature.
