In Mass Effect 1 it feels like every class is under powered except the vanguard. You always had an ability for any situation that could make you come out on top. While Mass Effect 2 did wonders to the different classes, developing them all enough to be completely viable, the Sentinel to me felt like the best class.

Like the Vanguard, the class has abilities for every situation. The sentinel's class ability is called Tech Armor. It creates a barrier that forms an extra layer of shielding to the player. When Tech Armor breaks, it explodes and staggers shielded/armored enemies and knocks down unprotected ones. When upgraded fully, the shielding power of Tech Armor is doubled, and can be used to increase the damage of your biotics and tech powers; or increase the power of the detonation when Tech Armor is lost. In my opinion, the damage increase to Biotics and Tech is by far better, making your already-strong abilities even stronger. The Sentinel's best abilities that are not class specific are Warp and Overload. With these powers, any type of protection the enemy has practically melts away. Upgrading these abilities is key to maximizing the power of your Sentinel. Now here are some tips to help you play as a Sentinel. Always attempt to keep Tech Armor up. It’s important to always have that extra layer of defense. The cool down on Tech Armor is quite long so always try to activate it before you initiate combat. Another good tip is to use your teammates wisely. Your gun selection is quite limited, so picking a squad with longer range guns can be helpful. Always pick companions that will be effective against the enemies you’re fighting. Ideally you would not bring Moridin in a fight with the Geth, for example, because his incinerate is close to useless and neural shock doesn't help greatly either. Instead, bring someone like Garrus or Miranda who has overload to fry the Geth. Do note that if you REALLY want to make this game easy you can bring Miranda along with you on each mission. She has Overload and Warp as well, which makes any type of enemy you fight practically a joke. Laugh as they go from full shields and armor to dead in a flash. In summary, the Sentinel is an extremely powerful class that has the ability to dominate the battlefield. If stripping armor and shields from enemies, surviving damage that other classes would crumple under, and just rolling around with a goofy, floating, orange shield sounds like fun to you, then you should really try out the Sentinel.
