Before we begin, we need to understand the Abilities and Weapons available to this class.
- Weapons: All
- Abilities: Adrenaline Rush, Concussive Shot, Disruptor Ammo, Incendiary Ammo, and Cryo Ammo.
As a Soldier, your main goal is to boggle down the enemy with the expert use of your weapons. The Assault Rifle is exclusive to the Soldier class and will be the main weapon used in taking down your enemies.
Weapons Overview: The Assault Rifle will be your main weapon of choice. Having a long range repeat-firing weapon is ideal, especially when combined with various ammo types.
-Recommended Choice: M-96 Mattock- This is by far the strongest Assault rifle available. When combined with the appropriate ammo type, this weapon can shred through almost any target. When applied with Adrenaline Rush, roughly 4-5 shots can suppress an enemy indefinitely.
The Sniper is a recommended second use weapon after the Assault Rifle. Not only will the varied ammunition Rush its attack power, but it will keep you at range. In addition, the Adrenaline Rush ability will allow for clean head-shot opportunities.
-Recommended Choice: M-98 Widow- This weapon has the highest damage output among all available snipers. With the use of Adrenaline Rush, dealing massive one-shot kills can be accomplished much easier.
The Shotgun is your tertiary weapon of choice. This will be used when enemies are closing in. What better way than to blow away your aggressors then with a powerful shotgun at hand.
-Recommended Choice: Geth Plasma Shotgun- Not only is this the strongest shotgun by over 3x, but it also has multiple other perks. This is the only shotgun equipped with a charge option, allowing you to devastate an enemy at the cost of more ammo use. Not just that, but this is also a very effective long range weapon as well with tracking abilities. This shotgun gets even better when applied to Adrenaline Rush.
Lastly, is the pistol. This will be your last line of defense or in some cases a quick switch to conserve ammunition in other weapons.
-Recommended Choice: M-5 Phalanx-
This pistol also has the highest damage output along with a moderate ammo size.
Side Note: This class should have the least amount of issues with ammunition because you can use every single weapon. Because of this, the weapon choices are made to maximize damage output for the sake of ammunition conservation.
Abilities Overview: As if having every weapon at your disposal wasn't enough, you have abilities to make them even more deadly.
Adrenaline Rush is the foremost ability you will use as a Soldier. This ability allows you to trigger your Adrenal glands by will, allowing you to instinctively move so fast that you seem to slow time around you. This ability lets you line up necessary shots for critical damage and also escape situations you should normally be bogged down by.
Concussive Shot is a quick and forceful shot used to incapacitate an enemy or force them to stagger for a short time. This can be useful when certain powerful enemies charge up a shot of their own or a close ranged enemy gets to close to deal with properly.
Assuming the enemy force is loaded with shields, it is best to activate disruptor ammunition to tear through them.
When the enemy force is loaded with armor such as Krogan and Vorcha (who also have regenerative abilities), it is best to use incineration ammo. Not only does it destroy armor, but it also decreases the rate of regeneration in enemies.
Cryo ammunition is best used when the base health of enemies is shown. It can narrow down the amount of attacking forces on your position so you can get a clear shot opportunity to take on other forces and thin them out.
Side Note: These ammo choices can be placed on all of your weapons in a varied manner. Having incendiary ammo on your Assault rifle can be useful, but when an enemy with shield pops up, you can switch to another weapon equipped with disruptor ammo to balance out the situation.
The Soldier class is purely weapon based and does not have any tech or biotic abilities at their disposal to manipulate the battle field. As such, it is recommended to have both a tech expert and/or a biotic expert to balance the situation.
Recommended squad mates include: Tali, Legion, Samara, Miranda, Mordin, Jack, Kasumi.
Side Note: As an additional ability to use for Shepherd after gaining loyalties from squad mates, it is recommended to take either Warp Ammo or Fortification. These two abilities will bolster an already powerful fire-fighting class.
1.Warp Ammo: Crushes Barriers that numerous enemies will have. Especially recommended near the end of the game where almost every enemy will have a barrier. In a way, this ammo class makes the other ammo type inferior in its ability to take down targets. If you do not want to switch between ammo types over and over, the warp ammo type is your skill of choice.
- Fortification: This ability grants the soldier some much needed protection. while Adrenaline Rush can be useful at running away from a swarm of enemies, it would be recommended to use it offensively instead of defensively.
I hope this guide was useful in teaching you to effectively play the Soldier Class. Enjoy!
