A simple Sentinel guide02/13/12
A brief guide on how I play the Sentinel class.
Rate this eGuide
The Sentinel is, in my opinion, the most flexible class to play. If played properly, it can be both a front-line fighter, almost on par with Soldiers or Vanguards, or a support class.
In this brief guide I will be going through a few strategies regarding weapon load-out, squad mate selection, and powers to utilize.
Firstly, weapons. As the Sentinel can only use sub machine guns, heavy pistols, and heavy weapons I preferred the Locust SMG (from the Kasumi DLC) and the Phalanx pistol, but you can't really go wrong with any pistol.
When you get to the part in the game where you can select an additional weapon, I decided to go for assault rifles: balanced, good overall damage, and effective at all ranges. I preferred the Mattock rifle, but again, as assault rifles are so balanced, you can't go wrong with any of them. As for the heavy weapon, I usually stuck to the Collector particle beam.
Squad mates: For most missions, I went with Miranda and either Grunt or Garrus. Miranda is also a Sentinel, so having two people who can take down both shields and armor make firefights real easy.
Couple that with Grunt's crazed shotgun rushes or Garrus' sniper rifle and you have a squad that can take down most threats. Really, as long as you're not using both Tali and Legion for a mission that doesn't involve Geth, you can use anyone and do well in missions.
Finally, powers. The powers that I maxed out ASAP were Defender and Tech Armor. For the Defender power, I chose the Raider specialization, and the Power Armor specialization for the Tech Armor power. I preferred to maximize power damage, but either specialization for either power work well.
I had everything else at level 3, and on my second and subsequent playthroughs, I used Shredder Ammo at level 3 as well. With this kind of power load-out, you can adapt to any situation with little difficulty.
To sum it up, the Sentinel is my favorite class because of its versatility. With the weapon and power load-out and squad mate selection I've outlined, the Sentinel can be prepared for anything and everything. Thanks for reading.
