-Take full advantage of your arsenal when it is first available to you. Do not limit yourself to one particular weapon in your overall campaign. Upgrade your and your squad's weapons whenever possible. When the game progresses, the AI will ramp up so it is necessary to your success (unless you decide to kill off everyone in your first or fifth play-through).

-The melee attack is a bit weak on ME:2, but it is necessary to conserve your ammo. Soften up enemies with a few quick bursts, charge in and finish them off. If you're not a fan of that, use your concussion shot ability. Very satisfying to see enemies flying off a highrise building.

-For myself, my squad layout varied from balanced to combat (see Official Mass Effect 2 Strategy Guide). Jack(Subject Zero) or Samara for my biotic and a strong tech specialist (Tali or Mordin). When subtlety isn't working for me, Grunt and Garrus or Zaeed and Jacob are great options for a guns blazing mission.

-For my weapons, I used incendiary, disruptor and armor-piercing ammo to give me an advantage. Incendiary for most geth and Krogan enemies and armor-piercing/disruptor for Biotics and mercenaries (i.e. Archangel recruiting mission or Miranda Lawson loyalty mission).

-Patience is key. The 'run and gun' method is typical for most down the line Third-person shooters, but it is easy to get overwhelmed in later missions. Squad commands (Liara-singularity or Jacob-overload) can help in you get out of tight spots.

-M-76e Revenant Machine Gun, M-5 Phalanx Heavy Pistol, M-29 Incisor Sniper Rifle, Geth Plasma Shotgun and Arc Projector is my most recent load-out for my Paragon Shepard. The Revenant offers a larger clip, but high recoil (to increase the stability of weapon aiming and arm movement, use the Kestrel Armor). The Phalanx is very reliable and the laser dot sight is perfect for getting that satisfying head-shot. The Incisor sniper rifle is unique in that it gives you three rounds bursts and limited ammo. I only use this weapon when I want to keep distance between myself and those troublesome Scions. The shotgun is great for blowing away Husks and Geth troopers. Lastly, the Arc Projector is a great weapon to use to kill multiple enemies at once, especially during the Reaper I.F.F. mission when you are about to disable the Galactic core on the derelict reaper.

-If you want most, if not all of your squad-mates to survive when you are approaching the last mission, it is ideal to focus on your ship upgrades. 30,000 Palladium for Multi-core shielding and Heavy Ship Armor; 3,000 Element Zero for Extended Fuel Cells (Recruit Samara in order to get access to this upgrade); Weapons: 15,000 Platinum for Garrus' Thanix Cannon upgrade. The last couple of upgrades are not really necessary for your overall mission, but they can come in handy: Recruit Thane and allocate 15,000 Iridium for the Modular Probe Bay and speak with Miranda for the Advanced Mineral Scanner (15,000 Iridium as well).

The Soldier class is the most accessible and beneficial class to use for new ME:2 players. More weapons, higher health and more available upgrades for weapons and armor. The higher you level up, the more points you can use to bolster yourself and your given squad-mates. Plus, doesn't everyone want to be a bad-ass in everyday life, righting wrongs or breaking necks in the galaxy? What makes this series so great is that it gets you deeply invested into the story and its characters, not just your customized Commander Shepard. The relationships and alliances you make throughout this particular game motivates you to 'bring it' in making sure that your save file that you want to import in Mass Effect 3.
