These simple steps will guide you through the Insanity process:

(1) Choosing the best squad mates for your mission

(2) Equipping Ammo powers

(3) Shooting the right gun for the job

What soldiers lack in biotics and tech damage, they more than make up for with a wide variety of weapons and ammo for every situation.

The most important components of success as a soldier in Insanity are (1) effectively choosing your two team mates to accompany you on missions, (2) remembering to equip ammo powers, (3) utilizing the right weapon for the scenario. Team mate powers, along with your arsenal and ammo, allow you to efficiently dispatch whatever comes your way.

Team mate skills can drain enemy barriers, armor, and shields more quickly than you simply shooting at them. When battling enemies with shields, it is wise to bring along a mate who knows Overload to disable shields and another team mate who knows an attack like Reave to quickly dispatch enemies reduced to health.

On an armor-heavy mission (such as missions with more Husks and Collectors than you can shake a boomstick at), the best squad mates to have tag along are those who have Reave and Incinerate.

While the enemy is distracted by the pain of their armor melting away or their health being sapped from them, you can fill the enemies' bodies with Incendiary Ammo.

Scientist Salarian Suggestion: Helpful to evolve powers to affect wide radius of enemies. Amount of damage slightly sacrificed but powers weaken multiple enemies at once. Bullets more effective against more than one enemy.

It is important to remember to equip ammo powers on your weapons at the beginning of a mission. Along with team mate skills, this is very useful for killing enemies in a timely manner.

While it can be a pain switching from Incendiary and Disruptor ammo depending on the protection of the enemies you face, it is worth the hassle when in combat with heavy mechs and bosses. Evolving one ammo power to be utilized by your squad members is also a good idea so the entire team can spread pain and chaos across the battlefield.

With the soldiers' wide array of weapons and ammo at their disposal, you are able to snipe enemies and accurately aim squad powers across great distances, knock down close-quarter enemies with your shotgun, spray bullets from your assault rifle at enemies at mid-range distance, use your heavy pistol to line up close range headshots, and of course, heavy weapons for when you just want to get the job done.

Do not follow your team mates' example by trying to snipe enemies across the battlefield with your shotgun (cough Grunt cough) or using your sniper rifle when within melee distance of a husk (the sniper rifle does not deter them from slapping you silly).

The extra powers the other classes have are negated by using team mate and ammo powers, along with being able to pick from five guns.

Half way through your Insanity run, you'll realize how much more fun the increase in difficulty is when you are good at selecting from five weapons, equipping ammo powers, and utilizing your squad mates' skills.

By following this guide, you should unlock the Insanity Achievement without throwing your $50 Xbox controller against the wall.
