03/13/12 - It doesn't seem to have. Casey Hudson (Mass Effect's Executive Producer who was also project lead on Knights of the Old Republic) has stated that the team was primarily inspired by wanting to create an incredible original science-fiction setting, where players could explore the expanse of space and have amazing adventures. They wanted to apply some of the key learnings they took away from KotOR, and use them in a completely original setting, where they would have ultimate freedom to do whatever they wanted to do, fictionally, and also to have a really close and direct relationship with their fans (you guys). I'm sure the team was inspired by a lot of sci-fi from movies, TV, books, etc. (we all have), but they didn't call out too many specific inspirations and B5 definitely was not mentioned.
