Nintendo 2DS Launches October 12th At $129.99

System drops glasses free 3D and clamshell design.

Despite 3DS selling well around the world, Nintendo wants to own even more market share. The company will attempt to do just that with the 2DS, a new 3DS-like system that debuts October 12th for $129.99, the same day as Pokemon X & Y.

With this device, Nintendo eliminated glasses free 3D, along with the clamshell design, opting to go with a slate-style unit that brings to mind the old Game Boy and Game Boy Advance models. That said, the handheld plays all DS games, as well as existing and upcoming 3DS titles.

The 2DS will be available in either red or blue, and will launch alongside carrying cases in those respective colors for $12.99 each.
