Super Smash Bros. Wii U, 3DS: Everything We Know

Catch up to speed with Nintendo’s frenzied brawler.

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS are without question two of the most highly anticipated games from Nintendo. Both Melee (GameCube) and Brawl (Wii) come loaded with content, but it’s time for those titles to pass the respective torch so veterans and newcomers can experience Smash Bros. in glorious high definition.

That said, we posted info on these impressive-looking games for your convenience.  Let’s start with the characters.

-Thus far, Nintendo has confirmed 12 Super Smash Bros. combatants. Old favorites include Pikachu, Bowser,  Pit, Kirby, Fox McCloud, Samus, Link, Mario and Donkey Kong.

-There are three newcomers so far: the Animal Crossing Villager, the Wii Fit Trainer and Capcom’s blue bomber, Mega Man.

-Mega Man uses canine sidekick Rush in battle. 

-Mega Man also possesses a Metal Blade Attack.

-There’s a Mega Man-inspired board that features Dr. Wily’s castle in the background.

-Dr. Wily’s Yellow Devil makes an appearances.  It seems characters can ride it.

-Wii Fit Trainer can pull off her Sun Salutation.

-Animal Crossing Villager uses his slingshot and bug-catching net as weapons, among other items.

-The games will feature exclusive levels.  Among them, stages inspired by Super Mario 3D Land, The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, Arena Ferox (Fire Emblem: Awakening) and Gerudo Valley (The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time).

-In fact, the Wii U and 3DS versions will have levels from console and portable games, respectively, to give each title a unique feel.

-There will be a Skyloft Stage inspired by The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.

-There’s a single-player mode, though in all likelihood, it won’t be like Subspace Emissary in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

Super Smash Bros. debuts for Wii U and 3DS in 2014.
