Super Smash Bros. Wii U: Most Wanted Characters

With new info coming next week, we have several favorites we’d like to see.

It’s been a long wait for the Nintendo Wii U and 3DS editions of Super Smash Bros., and the publisher will finally unveil the game at next Tuesday’s pre-E3 event.  Not only do we expect new features, but also plenty of characters.  Super Smash Bros. Brawl for Wii included a number of memorable fighters, ranging from Solid Snake to Sonic the Hedgehog.  Since this new title promises to be the biggest in the series to date, these characters deserve to make the roster.

Bayonetta

Though Platinum Games is busy with The Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta 2 for Wii U, we’d still love to see the latter’s gun-toting bombshell in Super Smash Bros.  With boot pistols, demonic powers and of course her demented wardrobe, Bayonetta could easily dish out devastating blows to anyone that gets in her way.

Taki or Nina Williams

Seeing as how the game is in production at Namco Bandai, we’re bound to see a few familiar faces from its arcade past, such as Pac-Man or maybe even Mr. Driller.  We’d also love a more seasoned fighter, and here are two suggestions: SoulCalibur’s sultry ninja warrior Taki, and Tekken’s Nina Williams.  These powerful combatants can definitely mix it up with the likes of Mario and Link.

Knuckles the Echidna

Since Sega and Nintendo formed a partnership on Sonic: Lost World and Sonic & Mario Winter Olympics, we need to see someone else from the world of Sonic make his or her debut.  That said, we vote for Knuckles, who can hit enemies with glide attacks.  Sonic arch enemy Eggman is our second choice, though his lack of speed may work against him.

Mega Man

Capcom is fairly close to Nintendo as well, releasing Resident Evil Revelations for the Wii U and readying Monster Hunter 4 exclusively for 3DS.  Let’s sweeten the deal by throwing the Blue Bomber into the game. He can easily call upon Rush to provide new weapons or propel to higher platforms, then call an ally like Proto Man to deliver additional damage.

Paper Mario

Mario is a Smash Bros. staple, and anything he can do, Paper Mario can certainly do as well.  Stomping and hammer strikes would make short work of enemies.  He can also call upon allies to help out, like Goombario, who could come running in to deliver a diving head butt.  It’d be interesting to see how a bout between the Marios would play out.

Little Mac from Punch-Out!!

Various Nintendo heroes have made it into Smash Bros. games, but somehow Little Mac missed the cut and we can’t figure out why.  This boxer can unleash stunning blows and uppercuts.  He’d make an easy fit, and could even have his trainer come in and run over someone with a bike. We’d also take King Hippo, who could easily crush someone.

Chrom from Fire Emblem Awakening

There’s no question that Fire Emblem Awakening is one of this year’s best portable games, and a lot of that credit goes to Chrom, a tireless hero who knows his way around battle tactics.  He’s an easy nomination to join the cast of the game, between his vicious sword swipes and the ability to call upon allies for secondary attacks.

Sin and Punishment: Star Successor Twins

Introducing two characters as one entity is a risky move, but as the Ice Climbers proved years ago, it can be done.  On that note, we have to nominate the twin fighters from Star Successor on the Wii, Kachi and Isa Jo.  Not only could they unleash devastating melee moves, but they can also shoot high-powered beams from a distance or even utilize homing attacks to level the playing field.  We won’t get the Gunstar Heroes, so we might as well take the next best thing.

Custom Mii Character

Finally, the next Smash Bros. should come with an option that really makes use of the Mii creator – the ability to add yourself and even use other fighters’ moves to your advantage.  It sounds risky, but being able to personify your brawler could make things interesting with online multiplayer.

We’ll have more details on the new Smash Bros. game next week.
