Syndicate developer Starbreeze has announced its intention to buy Overkill Software, creator of Payday: The Heist.

The deal isn’t signed, sealed and delivered yet – it’s pending approval from Starbreeze’s shareholders, but it looks like a dead cert.

Both companies are based in Sweden, so should fit snugly together. The move means Starbreeze now has the Payday IP alongside its own in development games P13 and Cold Mercury.

Payday: The Heist is a downloadable co-op FPS that first launched on PlayStation 3 late last year, then on PC via Steam. Overkill was founded in September 2009 after Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 developer Grin collapsed.

Starbreeze’s last game was Syndicate, a first-person shooter reboot of the cult classic action strategy game for EA Partners.
