my strategy is to maximize combat ability and get the best armor which gives me bonus points in various attribute categories.

The best way to play this game is to have face to face combat with sword. i do not like to use very many magic attacks or use alchemy to create potions because i want my character as organic and drug free as possible. So, I spend all the points into combat branch. The next important strategy is to find and collect the best rated gears including apparel and weapons. It is only then that you can focus on head on combat without running low on health. It is always more fun to slash an enemy with a sword than using magic.

11/28/12 - While an opinion, and while I do find melee combat to be much more exciting (probably due to it being the focal point for combat in The Witcher games), I don't think ignoring Magic or Alchemy skills is a wonderful idea. It's been a little while since I last played, but if I'm recalling correctly it was quite hard to survive on harder difficulties without the aid of potions or spells - definitely a well planned combination works best for me and my playing style - but each to their own.
