The video is called Agni’s Philosophy and was created using Square Enix’s next-gen Luminous Studio engine.

Boasting character design in a classic Final Fantasy style, the demo features protagonist Agni summoning a beast from the skies as she’s attacked by a rabid dog.

Yoshihisa Hashimoto, Square Enix’s technical director (formerly a Sega employee), directed the demo. The character design came from Akira Iwata while Takeshi Nozue handled creative direction, both are veterans of Final Fantasy games.

Also mentioned in the credits were several staff from Tomb Raider studio Crystal Dynamics. Tetsuya Nomura, a stalwart of FF design was listed as a character design advisor.

“Agni’s Philosophy showcases the level of quality that Square Enix is aiming for in next generation games,” came the company’s official line.

While Luminous Studio is the baby of Square Enix Japan the developers involved flew to Square Enix studios situated in the West, such as IO Interactive and Eidos Montreal of Hitman and Deus Ex: Human Revolution fame, respectively.

Could this trailer reflect the tone for forthcoming Final Fantasy titles?
