Valve’s digital card game Artifact had its first public showing at PAX West 2018, where attendees had the chance to go hands-on with the game. We’ve got the details below on the Artifact release date as well as when players can expect to join the Artifact beta.
Artifact is a digital trading card game based on the characters and world of Valve’s popular MOBA, Dota 2, and is designed by the original creator of Magic: The Gathering, Richard Garfield. The game takes inspiration from the structure of Dota 2 in that it involves battles across three lanes, where players must compete to defeat enemy minions and champions in an effort to tear down their opponent’s towers.
During The International, Dota 2’s annual esports tournament, Valve co-founder Gabe Newell announced that the Artifact beta will commence sometime in October 2018. No specific release date was given for the beta, but attendees from both The International and PAX West will receive beta access when the time comes.
