Cyberpunk 2077 Won’t Have Mod Support At Launch, But CD Projekt RED Is Open To It

Mods have become increasingly common in through the years, making devs rethink their stance on fan creations.

Though we still don’t have a release date at this time, the confirmation that Cyberpunk 2077 will have something huge for E3 2019 has fans of CD Projekt RED excited for what’s to come. With mod support becoming increasingly more common, especially with Bethesda on Xbox One and PlayStation 4, it’s understandable that many would wonder if such a huge game like Cyber would offer something similar, especially when looking at all of the wonderful mods for their other IP: The Witcher.

Alas, mod support will not be a thing – at least not at launch – though the studio has mentioned that they would possibly be open to adding it, though they are still weighing their options as to whether mod support is a priority at all. The recent clarification about mods came courtesy of Global Community Lead Marcin Momot when one fan took to Twitter to talk about CD Projekt RED’s declination for this sort of support.

“I wanted to elaborate on this topic and on that answer in particular,” said Momot in a recent forum post. “We have no plans to share at the moment. Obviously, we would love to support the modding community in the future, but for the time being we want to focus on releasing the game first. hopefully, this clears things up a bit.”

With such a massive game, there is no telling what the team will ultimate do with it, though at least for launch it’s pretty clear that mods just aren’t a big enough concern. That being said, modders will make them regardless and who knows where CD Projekt RED’s stance will be a year post-launch.

Though we don’t have an official release date at this time outside of leaks, we do at least know a little more about the game and its main character:

“Cyberpunk 2077 is a narrative-driven, open world RPG set in the most vibrant and dangerous metropolis of the future — Night City. You play as V, a hired gun on the rise, who just got their first serious contract. In a world of cyberenhanced street warriors, tech-savvy netrunners and corporate life-hackers, today is your first step to becoming an urban legend.”
