It's been a while since we've heard anything about Devil's Third, the latest project from Ninja Gaiden creator Tomonobu Itagaki and his former team members from Team Ninja. However, he recently resurfaced and reminded everyone that it's still coming – and it's on track for a release this year!

Speaking with 4Gamer, Itagaki-san stated that the game is not too far off from retail release. "Next year (2014, he gave the interview late last year) will be the year we'll be releasing the console game, Devil's Third. At the moment, it is about 80 percent complete, and we can about see the end of it. However, there's still a little more polishing that needs to be done. That's also one of the reasons I've decided to work independently.

"For you fans out there, I'd like to apologize for making you worry," he stated. "We'll be going all out next year (again, 2014), so please look forward to it."

No word yet on who's publishing the game, as THQ was originally lined up to handle it, but eventually sold the rights back due to bankruptcy.

Devil's Third is set for release on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and mobile devices.
