How to Find Coal

Finding Coal in Dig or Die is important. As we mentioned above, it’s definitely an item that you’ll want to know how to locate and obtain quite a bit of as you work to survive as many nights as possible, and eventually take on all of the bosses in the game.

To find Coal, you’re going to need to first upgrade your Miniaturizor. This is your handy-dandy collection tool, so you’ll be making use of it quite a bit throughout your time in Dig or Die. There are a few upgrades that you’ll need to unlock for it along the way, so make sure you are constantly working towards those as you explore the world, survive each night, and just try to stay alive.

You’ll need to not only upgrade your Miniaturizor, but you will also need to upgrade your Auto-builder. This is like your workbench, which allows you to make even more advanced items, giving you access to far more items. You’ll want to eventually upgrade this to Auto-builder MKIV, which will allow you to craft Coal using 10 Wood. Until then, though, head down into the depths of the world, make sure your flashlight is on, and start digging.

Make sure to bring along plenty of wooden platforms for this job, as you are going to need to be able to make your way back up to the top of the tunnel. Keep digging through the dirt until you reach the stone level, which is where you will be able to find Coal littered throughout the level. You can then approach the Coal and begin to mine it using your Miniaturizor. This will pick it all up and allow you to start making use of the Coal back at your Auto-builder.
