Check out Prima's exclusive guide on to how to find the Secret Missions, and beat them!

Secret Missions are listed under the main Missions in which they appear. The number before the parenthesis for each refers to their order in the “Secret Missions” menu.

Ah, and don’t bother going through this until you’ve finished the game at least once; many of these keys and doors are in fact impossible to get to without late game abilities (which you have from the get-go in a second play-through of the game!)

Mission 1 — Found

1 key, 1 door

Copper Key — Immediately after your first Lost Soul, take a left and platform across to a Copper Key.

01) Air Brawl (Copper) — You’ll have to defeat a few Lesser Stygians within one and a half minutes. The twist: they only take damage while airborne. Hold B to launch them and give them a four sword-slash combo. Doing this twice on the same enemy is just enough to kill them. If you can launch two enemies up in the air together, you’ll be on your way to making record time.

Mission 2 — Home Truths

2 keys, 2 doors

03) Simple Eradication (Copper) — Late on in the mission, you’ll go to the weird dreamworld, where you’ll do some platforming. As soon as you’re back in Limbo, leave the room, drop down, and move the camera around to spot the Copper Door.

It’s a straightforward mission. Kill six Stygians within one minute.

08) Stylish Victory (Copper) — After the you exit the room with the painting of Eva, you’ll do some platforming and break two doors. After the blue vine door, take an immediate right and Angel Burst across.

Here you have two minutes to gain an S rank. Since you can only be here on a second playthrough, you’ll have plenty of weapons to get that done. A very simple way of doing this: send out every Kablooey dart and detonate them. Repeat. There’s enough time between full cycles for your rank to keep on climbing. Alternatively, just have fun, don’t get hit, and use all your weapons.

Mission 3 – Bloodline

1 key, 1 door

Copper Key — After the first battle and the ensuing cutscene (Dante says “I’ll have to find another way”), take your very first right and destroy the Arbiter door. Move up the stairs for a copper key.

11) What Goes Around (Argent) — Early on in the mission you’ll have to chain OAL across to a few floating rocks. Stop at the platform when Dante says “Another blue rose?” and look right. Angel Burst to the Argent Door.

You have 70 seconds to kill four enemies. The shtick: they only take damage from other enemies. Fortunately you have some bomb-throwing Bathos flying around. Keep them alive, and ODP enemies into the explosion radius they cause before bailing out (careful not to ODP the flyers!). Once the two Stygians are dead, parry the grenades back to the flyers with Osiris (holding B makes it easy).

Mission 4 – Under Watch

2 keys, 2 doors

Argent Key — After the cutscene of the street dropping away, go down the stairs and take your first right. Punch back the with Eryx, then follow the path to an Argent Key.

Gold Key — After the fight around the fountain (where you first encounter a Shielded Pathos), jump up to the OAL grip. Follow this path for a Gold Key.

02) Simple Traversal (Copper) — As you platform your way to the second camera (after the Frost Knight battle) you’ll find a blue vine door up on a platform. Break through it for a Copper Door.

It’s an easy platforming mission. Just chain OAL across and use Angel Burst (hold it down for more distance!). On the second main island, you need to jump over the wall.

13) Flawless Conquest (Argent) — Immediately after you destroy the second camera (Dante says “One more”) don’t drop down! Jump straight across and OAL to make it to the platform with the Argent Door.

Defeat the five enemies without taking any damage. Okay, this is one will take some careful attention. There’s a Ravager, two Frost Knights, and two Shielded Bathos. You can keep the Frost Knights busy with Aquila, then take out the flyers. ODP plus an Arbiter hit will work nicely. Use your ears to avoid the Ravager’s chainsaw.

Mission 5 – Virility

2 keys, 2 doors

04) Demonic Conflict (Copper) — Right after the first Divinity statute of the mission, climb up the box of crates (with the word stupidity on the bottom), then jump across to your left for a Copper Door.

In this Secret Mission, only demon weapons will do damage. Group Stygians together to make good time. Use ODP on the Shielded Bathos.

16) Displaced Skirmish (Argent) — You’ll get to a corridor with weird yellow tentacles on the walls. Follow it until the words KILL DANTE appear on the floor, and take an immediate left. Break the door with the Arbiter for an Argent Door.

This Secret Mission is tricky. Dante will only deal damage within the green circles. Another catch: these circles shrink with time. Get in the biggest circle you can find (Angel Boost to it) and use ODP to bring enemies to you. Beyond that, just play simple and fast, using the sword for combos. Try to avoid the Ravagers: their attacks will pin you down for precious seconds.

Mission 6 – Secret Ingredient

 1 key, 1 door

Copper Key — As soon as you start gameplay in this mission, turn around and drop down for a Copper Key.

06) Rapid Descent (Copper) — Before crossing the huge door to the boss battle with the Succubus, take a left and Angel Burst across to the platform (it’s in plain sight) for a Copper Door.

A platforming mission giving you 80 seconds to hit 20 goals. Just surf your way down and hit each of them, but be sure to mind the right side as you go down. There are a two pairs of out of the way goals that you’ll want to take care of. Specifically, this is after you get your sixth and eleventh goals. Also, falling off will have you respawning at the top with the same amount of time you had. You can actually use this to your advantage, leaving a few high up goals for last.

Mission 7 – Overturn

 3 keys, 2 doors

Lots of stuff here: three keys and two secret missions!

Copper Key — Shortly after using the second boost, throw Aquila at the giant blue vine door and OAL across to the opening it leaves.

Argent Key — Just after the cutscene with the weird rat, look left across from the Divinity Statue and Angel Burst to the other side. Follow that path for an Argent Key.

Copper Key — After going down the elevator with Eryx, you’ll fight a Rage. Then you’ll OAL up, and immediately turn around for a Copper Key on a platform across from you.

17) Divergent Slaughter (Gold) — Shortly after using the second boost ring, you’ll see two shipping containers with ODP grips, across the level. Pull them out and follow through for a small vital star. Then turn back around, and Angel Burst across to the small “red house” platform slightly on your right. Gold Door for ya.

Four Stygians to kill. The shtick: You can’t use the same ability twice. Or, you can, but that will result in an immediate Fail! So keep tabs of what you’ve used. This is a good chance to explore some of your unused repertoire, and you have no time limit here. You can also get easy “Environmental” kills here.

05) Angelic Warfare (Copper) — After going down the elevator with Eryx, you’ll fight a Rage. On that same platform, look around for a Copper Door.

Ten Stygians to kill. Only Angel weapons will do damage. Knock yourself out.

Mission 8 – Eyeless

1 key, 2 doors

Argent Key — Shortly after the first battle of the mission (with the inverted train running above you), move down the “red light” side of the tunnel (against the flow of the mission). There will be an open gate on the right, then a blue vine door. Follow that through for an Argent Key.

07) A Taste of Heaven (Copper) — Near the beginning of the mission as you chase the Harpies, you’ll have an Eryx door to destroy on your left. Do so and look right for a blue vine door across the way. Throw Aquila at it before crossing over for a Copper Door. If you get to the Angel Boost Ring, you’ve gone a little too far.

80 seconds to get 11 kills. Enemies and Dante alike die after one hit, but the enemies are all shielded! Keep your distance and use ODP to rob them of shields, or just Eryx through them.

12) Moderate Traversal (Argent) — When you get to the weird tunnel parallel to the subway (Dante says “No! Get back here”) take an immediate left and move up to the Arbiter Door. Break it to get to an Argent Door.

Not the simplest platforming, but you have a lot of time on the clock. Keep in mind that you’ll often have to OAL, ODP, and Angel Burst a half dozen times before getting to the ground again. A flawless run might take a few tries for familiarity.

Mission 9 – Devil Inside

1 key, 1 door

Gold Key — This is a very, very tricky key to get to. After acquiring the Devil Trigger ability in dreamworld, Dante returns to some platforming before fighting two Rages. Wait for the Rages to climb up on the wall, then use OAL and the “Leap” ability (make sure you have this unlocked), to get to the second level and a much deserved Gold Key.

20) Subsistence (Gold) — You’re back at the inverted glass dome here. Don’t worry, the glass doesn’t break this time around. The objective is to survive three minutes. The twist: Dante slowly loses health, though defeated enemies will give him green orbs to replenish it. They key to clearing this is to focus on the Stygians. They’re weaker and yield just as many green orbs as any other enemy. Use Eryx to deal with shielded Knights about halfway through the challenge. In the final minute, you can avoid Ravagers by Angel Bursting across the room, again seeking out Stygians for necessary health gain. In the last 15 seconds, you can Air Burst around until the clock runs out, provided you have enough health.

Mission 10 – Bad News

0 keys, 0 doors

Mission 11 – The Order

1 key, 1 door

Copper Door — Late on in this mission you’ll find yourself in an indoor maze with the alarm ringing. Explore the central wing for a Copper Key protected by an Eryx door. Then backtrack to the left wing for the Copper Door.

10) The Power Within (Copper) — Kill 9 Stygians before Dante’s Devil Trigger runs dry. Each kill replenishes some Devil Trigger. OAL from one enemy to the next, and use the Eryx move “Showdown” twice on each Stygian for an easy kill. Just make sure you mark a short pause between your two Showdowns, so that the second one connects. OAL and repeat.

Mission 12 – Under Siege

0 keys, 0 doors

Mission 13 – Devil’s Dalliance

1 key, 2 doors

Gold Key — As soon as you drop into Lilith’s gauntlet, move across the right wing (via the Boost Ring) for a Gold Key.

21) Shenanigans (Ivory) — In Lilith’s gauntlet, turn around and jump onto the second level. Then take a right and cross over to the Ivory Door.

Kill all enemies! Sounds easy? Man, it isn’t, and that’s why there’s only ONE Ivory Door. Just three enemies here: a Blood Rage, a Ghost Rage, and a Witch who sports moves unlike any I’ve seen outside of this Secret Mission. Keep the Ghost Rage busy with a thrown Aquila whenever you can. You’ll want to kill the Witch first since she can shield the Rages and herself. Throwing Aquila at her works well to break her shield, after which you should go in for heavy damage with demon weapons. Beware of her triple projectile (move a bunch if it appears, or attack her to nip it in the bud). Once only the Ghost Rage is left, just chuck Aquila at it until it dies. No time limit. Good luck.

15) Hasty Acquisition (Argent) — After fighting the ninja-thing in Round 5, you’ll run up a narrow purple staircase. As soon as you’re topside, look around for the Silver Door just below you.

If you didn’t bother breaking junk for red orbs throughout the game, you’ll get your fill right here. You have 35 seconds to collect 90 orbs. It’s possible to do it just with the Angel Burst and the sword. Attack the two clusters on your immediate right first, then the ones under the hallway back in the center. Attack the left wing (lots of clusters here) before moving back to the center and attacking the third wing for the few clusters that will take you to 90.

Mission 14 – Last Dance

0 keys, 0 doors

Mission 15 – The Trade

2 keys, 0 doors

Copper Key — Near the very beginning of the gameplay you’ll have to Eryx the ground to help the car fly across safely. Eryx the ground once, then jump left (where all the shipping containers are). There’s a Copper Key on the ground.

Copper Key — After the surfing on a truck sequence, you’ll ODP a floating bus and jump onto it. Once on the bus, Angel Burst across to the left. There’s a Copper Key up top.

Mission 16 – The Plan

1 key, 2 doors

Gold Key — After fighting two Ghost Rages, find the room with vertical “rivers” of fast-moving boxes. Hug the wall on the right and you’ll see a Gold Key past a river of boxes. Move through once the river has cooled down.

18) Extreme Traversal (Gold) — After defeating three Elite Stygians, move on and take a U-turn right. In what is the center of the floor plan, you’ll find a small metal pathway between two rectangles of bright light. Jump to it and take a left. You’ll find the building’s stairwell, at the very bottom of which is a Gold Door.

09) Bait and Switch (Copper) — You’ll eventually find a room with a red band across the walls and many decaying silhouettes. There’s a Copper Door in one of the corners.

Mission 17 – Furnace of Souls

1 key, 1 door

Ivory Key — After a huge battle with two Butchers, Elite Stygians, and a Witch, move onward with some platforming. Once you get to the broad, layered platform, head right. OAL across and get the Ivory Key behind the blue vine door. Here you’re doing some island-hopping. Past the platform with the Divinity Statue, you’ll fight two Stygians. ODP a platform out, wait for the hellfire to subside, and get across quickly! A Gold Door awaits. 19) A Day in Hell (Gold) — A square arena with a Ravager and six Stygians. Dante dies in one hit. Keep them all busy with Round Trips, and move away if things are getting hairy.

Mission 18 – Demon’s Den

1 key, 1 door

Silver Key — In the central room, if you’re facing the big teal portal at a distance, go down the far right tunnel. There’s an opening with a Silver Key above the main path here. Hug the walls and hop onto the small obsidian ledges. They’re on the right wall if you’re facing the room with the globe in it. These ledges allow you to get up there.

14) Colossal Triumph (Argent) — In the central room, if you’re facing the big teal portal at a distance, go down the far left tunnel. It will take you to an open area. Down to the left, in plain sight, waits a Silver Door.

Kill a Tyrant within 45 seconds. Just get close, evade to its backside and do Eryx combos. Facing its backside, you can also pull it down with ODP and then do combos.

Mission 19 – Face of the Demon

Mission 20 – The End
