DriveClub is now available for PlayStation 4, delivering hours of racing thrills with a number of vehicles to choose from. That said, we have the finest rides in the game, as well as a few choice selections from the forthcoming and free PlayStation Plus version, which should launch in the near future.
Without further ado, here are the best selections in each of the five divisions – Hot-Hatches, Sports, Performance, Super and Hyper.
Hot-Hatches
Don’t judge these rides based on looks. Quite a few of them are peak performers, able to keep up in a race just as well as sports cars. No, we’re not kidding – there must be some sort of magic beneath the hood.
The Mini John Cooper Works GP and Volkswagen Golf GTI are both small but sufficient vehicles you can take on the road in both the main and PS Plus versions of the game, and you’ll have no problem maneuvering around corners and hitting straightaways.
Other notable Hot-Hatches include the Audi A1 quattro, the Renault Clio RS and the Volkswagen Beetle GSR, because you can’t have a Hot-Hatches category without a Beetle thrown into the mix.
Sports
Although DriveClub doesn’t provide much opportunity to go off-road, that doesn’t mean this Sports category can’t perform on the pavement. In fact, these are some of the better vehicles in the game when it comes to driving competitively, as they pack enough speed under the hood, even with their deluxe builds.
For both the PS Plus and regular editions of DriveClub, you can try both the Bentley Continental GT Speed and the Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG. Just make sure you watch yourself on corners, as some vehicles require a little more braking than others.
Other vehicles in this category worth checking out include the Lotus Evora Sports Racer (a beauty in its own right) and two BMW models – the M135i and the M235i.
Performance
If you want a vehicle that provides both superior handling and speed, Performance is a one-stop shop. Here you’ll find a number of vehicles available that can get the job done when it comes to passing cars and getting first-place victories, even with the rubber band AI that exists in the game. It’s always nice to have an edge, and these cars provide that and more.
For both versions of the game, you’ll be able to try out the BMW M3 GTS and the Maserati Gran Turismo MC Stradale. Both are prime performers, but there’s something really cool about the Maserati, mainly in the way it’s built. Its sleek design enables superb handling as you go down the road, and it’s not too bad for cornering either. Try to get a blue one if you can – it looks great.
As for the full version of the game, the Aston Martin models are a safe bet, including the awesome Vanquish model and the V12 Zagato, one of the finer vehicles in the game. The Ferrari California and FF cars are wonderful, too, and a sure bet when you’re joining a club for the first time.
Super
Now we’re talking power. With the Super line-up, you’ll be introduced to the next level of racing machines, which you’re going to need as you step up to better races and more powerful AI drivers.
For both the PS Plus and regular versions of the game, you have two Super cars to choose from. The Audi R8 V10 Plus is no slouch when it comes to gaining speed and maintaining it over the competition, and the BAC Mono is pretty smooth as well, with an excellent build and a top speed that will leave some competitors (probably in the Hot-Hatch division, if they’re not good enough) choking on your dust.
If you have the full game, shop around. You’ll find four Ferrari models in this division – the 458 Italia, the F12berlinetta, the 599 GTO and the 430 Scuderia, and they’re all fun to take a drive with. The McLaren 12C shouldn’t be ignored either, and fans of sports cars from overseas will adore the Spania GTA GTA Spano; yes, they named it twice. Be sure to check out the Aston Martin V12 Vantage S and the One 77 as well.
Hyper
Finally, if you want the top-level vehicle in the game, you can’t go wrong with the Hyper class. These are some of the fastest vehicles in DriveClub, and the most competitive models you want to go with when shooting for first place victories and top lap times. You’ll still have the competition to deal with, but thankfully, you’ll have a beast by your side.
Both versions of DriveClub come with the awesome Pagani Zonda R and the RUF CTR3 Clubsport, ideal vehicles for introducing you to the Hyper class. Excellent handling all around.
Cars featured in the full version of DriveClub include the slick Pagani Zonda R and Huayra, as well as the Koenigsegg Agera R, one of our personal favorites, as well as the slick Hennesey Venom GT.
Bottom line, it helps to experiment and see what vehicles are available in each class. While DriveClub doesn’t have the high car count that Forza Horizon 2 does, it still has plenty to offer, more additional cars coming via DLC.
