The Elder Scrolls Online: What is the Best Way to Heal?

With all of the freedom offered in ESO, we take a look at some optional healing builds.

One of the best things about The Elder Scrolls Online is the fact that you can play any class with any race, performing almost any party role. While the freedom is welcome, it can make it difficult to determine exactly how you want to play a certain party role. When it comes to healing, there are a wide variety of options that all work well depending on your style of play.

The first course of action when creating a healing class is to select the appropriate race. As previously mentioned, you can be an effective healer, but some races do have unique abilities that will assist your healing class. Argonians (Ebonheart Pact) are arguably the best race for healing, simply because they have natural boosts to healing in general, in addition to boosting the Restoration Staff.

If you don’t like the Argonian race, a Breton (Daggerfall Covenant) might work well for you. This race has a natural boost to its Magicka reserves, allowing them to heal longer than some other races. In addition, they have several defensive abilities, which work well to keep you alive long enough to heal your party.

The next best choice would probably be the Altmer (Aldmeri Dominion). While they don’t have the natural healing boosts of other races, they do get a boost to their Magicka reserves and a natural regen. The regen will help keep them alive, while the Magicka boost allows them to heal for longer periods of time. This race works very well if you want to play a back-up healer, as they can dish out damage, but also have a knack for healing if needed.

Once you have your race down, it’s time to determine your class. Templar is a popular choice for players looking to use a healer. They have quite a few abilities which are key to playing a good healer. The Restoring Light skill series should be your focus. Almost all of the skills revolve around healing and general party buffs. You can also use the Dawn’s Wrath skill line, which offers many defensive abilities, which is useful for support in general.

Using the Restoring Light skill set, you can basically use any weapon you desire and still be a proper healer for you party. This gives you quite a bit of variety, but you can also use a Restoration Staff and play just about any class as an effective healer. In this instance, Dragonknight is another optional class for a healer. In general it’s more effective as a damage dealing (DPS) or tanking class, but you can make it work as a healing class. Their Earthen Heart skill line offers many effective abilities as a healer. For example, Obsidian Shield provides an armor buff to your party.

Sorcerers make great healers thanks to their ability to essentially have unlimited Magicka and using Surge to increase their general heal potency. Capacitor is a passive ability that gives them Magicka regeneration. Add in Grand Healing and Mutagen and you’ve got a solid healing class on your hands. You can also quickly switch to dealing damage as a Sorcerer because they’re so versatile.

Nightblades work as a proper healing class if you use Funnel Health, Healing Springs, Healing Ward, Rapid Regeneration and Sap Essence. This build uses a mix of restoration and siphoning magic to offer a potentially endless flow of healing for yourself and the party. This is more of a hybrid healing class because you’re also inflicting solid damage on enemies.

While there are a number of different builds you can use to create a quality heal-ing class in The Elder Scrolls Online, this should give you a solid start. Templar is essentially the default healing class, but with the Restoration Staff, virtually any class can be played as an effective healer. It depends on how much freedom you want in weapon choice, and if you want to be a strict healer, or if you prefer more of a hybrid class that can DPS or tank in addition to healing.
