After a brief delay, Epic Games has unleashed the latest patch for Fortnite. Update v4.2 is available now for Fortnite players on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, and mobile, applying gameplay tweaks and adding an assortment of new items to both Save the World and Battle Royale game modes. We’ve rounded up some of the highlights from the latest patch notes below.

Burst Assault Rifles

Update v4.2 introduces Epic and Legendary variants of the Burst Assault Rifle to Fortnite Battle Royale. Like their previous versions, these new variants of the Burst Assault Rifle fire in three-round bursts using Medium ammo. Their appearance slightly differs from burst rifles of lower rarity. Players can pick up these new variants of the Burst Assault Rifle as floor loot or within treasure chests, supply drops, and vending machines.

New Consumable: Apples

The latest update also introduces Apples, a new type of consumable item for Fortnite Battle Royale. Consuming an Apple will restore five health points, up to 100. Look for Apples near certain trees throughout the map when you need to replenish your health in Fortnite.

Perk Recombobulator (StW)

For Save the World, players can look forward to customizing their favorite weapons using the all new Perk Recombobulator. Introduced with patch v4.2, the Perk Recombobulator is an unlockable item that allows players to choose the upgrade and perk loadout for their weapons.

Players must first complete the Plankerton Storm Shield Defense 2 mission in order to unlock this new item. To use the Perk Recombobulator, simply open the item upgrade screen and find the new Modify Perks option in Save the World.

Weapon Adjustments

The Suppressed Submachine Gun has received a decent buff in Fortnite Battle Royale, earning a stat boost in damage, accuracy, and damage fall-off range. Meanwhile the Damage Trap has been nerfed, getting a decrease in damage from 125 to 75. Remote Explosives have received a few tweaks as well.

Auto Pick-Up

The update has also added a new auto pick-up option that allows players to instantly pick up weapons and items when walking over them, similar to ammo. This new feature is available for those on PC and console versions of Fortnite.

Along with the highlights listed above, a number of other changes have arrived as part of Fortnite Update v4.2, including bug fixes and even some map changes. To view the full list of changes from the latest patch, head over to the official Fortnite v4.2 patch notes on the Epic Games blog.
