Fortnite Patch v4.5 Highlights

Playground Limited Time Mode (LTM)

UPDATE: The Playground LTM has been temporarily removed due to stability issues. Epic is currently working on a fix and will hopefully re-enable the Playground LTM soon.

The highly anticipated Playground LTM is now available in Fortnite as part of the v4.5 patch update. The Playground is exactly as the name suggests: a low-pressure environment where players can unleash their creativity and test out Fortnite’s various gameplay features. The Playground offers a place where players can go to practice with weapons or build structures with up to three friends, and is a great way for players to get acquainted with the gameplay mechanics of Fortnite or improve their skills without having to fumble around in a live ranked match.

According to the Fortnite v4.5 patch notes, players can drop into the Playground LTM and play with friends for an hour. Friendly fire is on, but players respawn instantly upon death unless killed by a storm, which doesn’t start closing in until the end of the play session. The patch notes also refer to it as “version 1” of Playground, which means we can expect to see an improved iteration of the Playground LTM in the future.

Dual Pistols

Fortnite patch update v4.5 also introduces a new weapon to Battle Royale: Dual Pistols. These new weapons come in Epic and Legendary rarity and use Medium Ammo. Players can fire both pistols with a single pull of the trigger. Look for Dual Pistols within chests, supply drops, and as floor loot in Battle Royale.

Map Markers

Similar to the glowing map marker beams used in Realm Royale, Fortnite has now implemented their own colorful map markers for Battle Royale mode. Now, when a squad member places down a map marker, it will be shown with a colored visual indicator that can be seen from the sky when dropping into the map.

Builder Pro and Blockbuster Event (Save the World)

This update comes with a number of new features for Save the World as well, including the long-awaited Builder Pro controller configuration, which up until now has only been available in Battle Royale mode. The key bindings for both Fortnite modes have also been separated, which means the key bind settings used for one mode will not affect the key binds in the other.

As Season 4 comes to a close, so does the Blockbuster Event for Save the World. Blockbuster Part 4: The Finale is now available, which includes a new questline involving the Shadow Ops heroes.

Along with these new features, today’s patch update also changes the Grenade Launcher into a Fireworks Launcher for a limited time to celebrate the summer season. Fireworks will now burst forth whenever players use the Grenade Launcher, though this is a cosmetic effect only.
