Fortnite has made waves since Epic released it into Early Access several months ago, and we’ve covered the game quite extensively here on the site. If you’re looking for a game that cleverly blends crafting and survival elements, then Fortnite is definitely an excellent choice—not to mention it even comes with a free-to-play Battle Royale mode now. For many, though, Fortnite is more enjoyable with their friends, and players have been wondering—can you play splitscreen in Fortnite? Today we’ll take a look at the game, go over all the options you have to play it, and then discuss if in Fortnite you can play in splitscreen or not.

Does Fortnite Support Splitscreen Gameplay?

Fortnite is the perfect kind of game to play with friends, and for many, playing online isn’t a problem. But for those out there who want to be able to play the game from the comfort of their couch, with their friends all crowded around their flatscreen tv, things might be a bit trickier. See, Fortnite doesn’t offer any kind of support for splitscreen play, which means you’ll only be able to team up with others online.

As we stated above, for most, this isn’t going to be an issue. But, if you’re one of the few who want Fortnite to act as a nice couch co-op game, then you’ll need to figure out some other way to team up. Of course, the game isn’t really that demanding when it comes to PC requirements (and it’s available on both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 right now), so players should be able to play it even on lower end systems, making linking up with friends much easier.

It should be noted, though, that the game is still in Early Access, which means the developers could decide to add a splitscreen mode in at any time. Whether that happens or not is completely up to them, though, and there’s no doubt in our minds that the game we have today will have evolved quite dramatically by the time it reaches full release and leaves Early Access behind.

How to Play Solo in Fortnite

While there isn’t any built-in splitscreen game mode available, fans that want to play with their friends can do so by simply connecting online. But, if you’re one of those people who like to do things by themselves, or you just don’t feel up to gaming with your friends one night and want to grind out a level on your own, then you can change the state of your lobby at any time by pressing the dropdown in the top-right corner. This will give you several options to choose from, one of which is your party’s settings. You can change it to invite only, friends, or public, giving you plenty of different ways to play the game.

Unfortunately, Fortnite doesn’t support splitscreen, and Epic has made no announcements about it coming to the game at a later time. We’ll be sure to update this article if that information changes, but for now be sure to head back over to our Fortnite guide for even more helpful guides to assist you as you try to become one of the best and save the world from the storms overtaking it.
