The ability to crouch in Fortnite differs based on which platform you’re playing on as well as your control settings. It’s also important to note that crouching is only available during Battle Royale mode, which is indicated in the Input Settings. When playing Fortnite on PC using a keyboard, the Crouch input defaults to the Left Ctrl key. This can be modified by opening the Settings menu using the cog in the upper right corner and selecting Input.

How to Crouch in Fortnite on PS4 and Xbox One

As we mentioned, the ability to crouch in Fortnite will differ depending on your platform of choice and what type of controls you are using. When playing Fortnite with a controller, you won’t be able to fully customize your control scheme like you can on PC with a mouse and keyboard setup.

To compensate for this, Fortnite offers several different control layouts for players using either a PS4 or Xbox One controller to play Fortnite. These control layouts include Standard, Quick Builder, and Combat Pro control configurations.

  • Standard & Quick Builder: L1 (PS4), LB (Xbox One)
  • Combat Pro: Right Thumb Stick (Tap to Crouch, Hold to Repair)

To crouch in Fortnite using a PS4 or Xbox One controller, simply press the left shoulder button. Crouch controls are the same for both Standard and Quick Builder controller configurations in Fortnite.

The Combat Pro configuration works a bit differently, as it assigns Crouch to the right thumb stick instead.

To crouch using the Combat Pro configuration, you must tap the thumb stick rather than hold it. Holding the right thumb stick in Combat Pro causes you to perform a repair instead.

Additionally, the only way to crouch and un-crouch in Fortnite is by clicking the Crouch button twice. Holding the crouch button won’t do anything. It would be nice to be able to toggle between tapping and holding to crouch in Fortnite, as this would help add another layer of customization to cater to player preferences. We’ll be sure to inform you of any major changes to Fortnite’s controls as they are announced.
