Codemasters, a company that’s thrived on making some of the best racing games out there (witness last year’s DiRT 3 and the arcade-style DiRT Showdown), is ready to step back onto the GRID.  The company has officially announced the long-awaited follow-up to its hit 2008 racer, GRID 2, which will arrive on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC next year.

The game will once again bring back the fine handling that made the original GRID such a success, along with a new of new vehicles and tracks, as well as a multi-discipline approach that’s rare in racers these days, really teaching you the correct basics in vehicular handling.  What’s more, Flashback will return, allowing you to clear up previous mistakes and hopefully stay on the road.

Best of all, GRID 2 will also feature a great progression system that differs between both single player and multiplayer, so you can actually work at both to earn rewards and essentially become king of the road.

We’ll have a better look at GRID 2 in the weeks ahead and return with a full preview very soon.  In the meantime, you can “hit the road” with a look at the game’s trailer, which you’ll find here.
