Xbox Consoles To Get Original Programming By Early 2014

Microsoft is a "different animal" when it comes to its shows.

Owners of the Xbox 360 and Xbox One who have been wondering just when they’ll be getting original shows for their systems – including Steven Spielberg’s take on the Halo franchise – won’t have to wait too much longer.

Speaking with Variety, Microsoft’s TV executive Nancy Tellem explained that original programs would start debuting in “the first quarter, at minimum second quarter” in early 2014, though she didn’t name what kind of shows viewers could expect.

The company hasn’t disclosed details on these shows because they’re still wondering just how console-based television will come across to fans. “We aren’t Netflix, we aren’t Amazon, we’re a different animal,” said Tellem.

“We’re neither or we’re a little like them. It all depends. The lack of black and white and this is the template and this is what we’re following is very difficult. As we continue to do deals, everyone’s going to get more comfortable.”

“Depending on the piece of content, the deals change. We’re talking about exclusives, exclusive first windows, exclusive second windows,” concluded Tellem.

We’ll have more details in the months ahead.
