Most Popular Xbox One Games – Did Master Chief Beat Advanced Warfare?

Can the Chief take down Call of Duty this week? These are the games Xbox One owners want to play.

2015 will be a huge year for Xbox One owners, with games like Batman: Arkham Knight, Halo 5: Guardians and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt set for release. Unfortunately, these potential hits are several months away, so for now we have to “settle” for games that came out last year. At least on the positive side there are worse things in life to endure than spending countless hours enjoying critically acclaimed RPGs, lifelike sports games and thrilling first person shooters.

On that note, here are this week’s most popular Xbox One games.

10. FIFA 15

This year’s FIFA is without question the best. Not only does it play better than its predecessors, with multiple corner kick options and improved goalie AI, but it also looks incredible. Corner flags bend, the pitch gets torn apart over time and players who slide have grass stains on their uniforms. This is the biggest sports video game for a reason, yes indeed.

9. Madden NFL 15

The NFL season (playoffs included) is almost over, but at least you can play Madden NFL 15 year-round, giving you the chance to create fantasy what if scenarios. Example: what if the Dallas Cowboys didn’t choke against the Green Bay Packers? At this rate, Madden is the only way Tony Romo (virtual or otherwise) will win a Super Bowl. We kid, Dallas fans.

8. Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor

What’s a little spilt blood between enemies? Deceased ranger Talion comes back to avenge his death in this original effort from WB Games. The high level of carnage is the biggest selling point, with heads flying and blood spurting all over the place, but the ability to affect Uruk leadership through assassination while creating rivals is another interesting element to an outstanding game.

7. Minecraft

It wouldn’t surprise us to see Forza Horizon 2 or Assassin’s Creed Unity in this spot, but nope, it’s all about Minecraft. People love building virtual homes, crafting tools, harvesting resources (leave no tree standing) and hiding from Creepers. The game doesn’t make excellent use of the powerful Xbox One hardware, but since when is it all about the graphics?

6. Far Cry 4

We left our hearts in Kyrat, the scenic country in Ubisoft’s open world shooter. We’re all for toppling dictator Pagan Min and freeing the people firmly beneath his shoe, but first we have to hunt tigers, film some videos and tear down Propaganda Posters. You know, really important stuff.

5. Destiny

We lost plenty of hours to Bungie’s addictive FPS, set on Earth, the Moon, Mars and Venus. We explored the universe solo, collecting loot and blasting Hive, then we teamed up with three friends and battled aliens together, and that’s for starters. Destiny’s multiplayer component, The Crucible, is a whole other beast entirely.

4. GTA 5

We expect Grand Theft Auto 5 to remain in the top 10 months from now, and for great reasons. While the game looked awesome on the Xbox 360, it shines even brighter on Xbox One, with superior graphics, more traffic cluttering roads and of course, first person GTA!

3. NBA 2K15

Beware, New York Knicks fans! The Bockers shipped JR Smith and Iman Shumpert to Cleveland, which is a serious blow to the offense. Well, they still have Carmelo Anthony draining threes at will in the video game, and yet, the real Knicks only have five wins on the season.

That aside, 2K15 shines with realistic player models, emphatic dunks and smoother animations overall. We’re also big fans of host Rachel DeMita, who gives us yet another reason to fire up the game.

2. Halo: The Master Chief Collection

Multiplayer issues notwithstanding, you still receive four quality games that received cool graphical upgrades, with Halo 2 benefiting the most from 343 Industries’ magic touch. Play Halo through Halo 4 in sequence, skip to different chapters or tweak the missions so you only play one’s with tanks. There’s a lot to experience, particularly if you never played a Halo game before.

1. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare

CoD dominates the number one position. Buy it for Kevin Spacey and then stay for zapping enemies with lasers, scaling walls using a powerful exoskeleton and controlling a drone swarm. Single player will take roughly five hours to beat, but you’ll get plenty of mileage from the twitchy multiplayer.

Check back every Tuesday to see which Xbox One games made the top 10!
