Even though Injustice 2 is almost a full year old, it continues to bring fresh new characters to the roster with DLC. The most recent round of DLC just added the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to the game, and it has a ton of fans excited, ourselves included. With the game available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC and even mobile (although the mobile version is a slightly different experience), the player base is still alive and active if you want to get online for matches. In addition, the game was recently included in the Evo 2018 announcement, securing its place in the largest fighting game tournament of the year, and many other events leading up to Evo.\
Gameplay
If you’ve played other NetherRealm Studios fighting games, you should have a pretty good idea of what to expect from Injustice 2. The combo system is similar to that of the original Injustice, as well as the recent Mortal Kombat titles. Injustice favors a back to block system, similar to Street Fighter, as opposed to the block button used in Mortal Kombat, but otherwise the two fighters share many gameplay elements.
Chain combos make it much easier for newcomers to enter the fray, while series vets can get far more creative with the combo system. It’s also possible to use clashes to break out of combos if you have enough meter, meaning you won’t be stuck in a long, damaging flurry of attacks every time you get hit. DC fans should also be impressed with the cinematic super moves featured in the game, which bring the movies and comic books into Injustice 2 in dramatic fashion.
If online multiplayer isn’t your thing, Injustice 2 is one of the few fighting games that offers a robust single player experience. From the lengthy story mode with multiple endings, to the custom gear you can earn by playing the game or with real money, there’s a lot to do for people who don’t want to get overly competitive in fighting games! Every new DLC characters adds additional skins and gear sets to unlock, adding even more to the solo experience.
Visuals and Performance
Injustice 2 does a great job bringing the comic books to life. It’s one of the best looking fighting games on the market, and the recent addition of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has garnered praise from mainstream media for looking far superior to the recent movie versions of the heroes in a half-shell. In fact, including all four turtles in a single character adds huge value to the DLC this season. The finer details, such as grabbing a pizza from the camera man, then shoving it back in his lens, are what really bring the characters to life in Injustice 2.
The game also runs extremely smooth on all platforms, and the PC specs aren’t so outrageous that the game won’t run on lower end hardware. You still need a decent PC, but you won’t have to break the bank if you want to play Injustice 2 on your computer. Online play is also some of the best you’ll find in a fighting game, and the developers take pride in that fact. Whether you play online or offline, Injustice 2 is a smooth and welcoming experience.
Game of the Week
Games as a service are becoming more and more common these days. While Injustice 2 doesn’t quite fit that mold, the continual support from NetherRealm has maintained the player base and kept the game feeling new. The recent addition of the TMNT has plenty of people returning to the game after moving on to newer releases. This is how you keep people playing a game, and it’s why we have dubbed Injustice 2 the Prima Game of the Week!
