Rollin’ Back the Week’s Best Tips: Downloads In the Summertime

With no new game releases this week, we look at some fresh new downloadable content and tips that can help you get through it with ease.

Welcome back to Rollin’ Back the Week’s Best Tips.  Unfortunately, there were no major new releases to cover for our column, though next week will certainly be jumping between Metro: Last Light and Monaco: What’s Yours in Mine.

However, there’s still plenty to cover in this week’s column, thanks to fresh DLC for such games as Injustice: Gods Among Us and Metal Gear Rising Revengeance.  For good measure, we have some advice on the recently released Fuse demo.

Let the fun begin!

Injustice: Gods Among Us

WB Games and Netherrealm Studios have created a worthwhile brawler with the DC Comics universe, and it continues to get better this week with the addition of space biker Lobo.  So in honor of his arrival, here are a couple of tips.

Lobo Likes His Guns – A major portion of Lobo’s attacks come from his shotgun, and why not?  It’s ideal for hitting an enemy in the air, shooting them while they’re on the ground or just shooing from the hip.  Master all his gun attacks, then find a way to combine them with his chain swinging to do some major damage.  Don’t be afraid to knock chumps into another area – Injustice is good for something like that.

Lobo’s Got Combos – Each character in Injustice: Gods Among Us has some good combos to take advantage of, but some are better than others depending on the skill of the player.  With Lobo, you can rank up to both beginner and intermediate, and it mostly involves chaining together his weak and strong attacks.  Get a good multi-hit going, launch an enemy in the air, then dust them off with a shotgun blast.  It’ll take some practice, but you can put together some wicked stuff with this guy.  We’ve seen it.

Moving on, here’s another game well worth checking out…

Metal Gear Rising Revengeance

Konami’s action tour-de-force, brought together by the team at Platinum Games may lack the depth of most Metal Gear Solid games, but it makes up for it with stylish combat and the ability to chop an enemy into thousands of pieces using your precision cutting.  Next week a new character named Bladewolf will join the fun and here’s a quick tip in regards to getting used to him.

Bladewolf Isn’t All That Different From Raiden – The fighting style between cybernetic animal and warrior may look like they differ quite a bit (one’s on all fours and the other on two feet) but the truth is, they can both combine attacks into vicious combos and can fend off incoming threats with blocking.  Then there’s the precision cutting, which Bladewolf is able to do with his tail.  He does just sit there as he cuts into enemies, but they still fall to pieces while he does so is quite awesome.  Be sure to check out this DLC when it drops for Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Network this Tuesday.

Next up, let’s take a look at some tips from a recently released demo…

Fuse Demo

Bring Some Friends – Fuse is a pretty good demo for solo players, as your AI partners still respond quickly enough and you can do major damage switching between all four characters, but Insomniac intended this to really be played with a group in mind.  The demo supports up to four players online (or two players locally via split-screen) and it makes all the difference as you approach objectives and defeat enemies as a group.  Even if you don’t have three friends to join you at the start, you can start up a game and have them jump in at any time.  Teamwork makes all the difference here.

Those Mechs Are Bad Boys – Midway through the demo we found ourselves in a real skirmish when a pair of heavily armed mechs charged onto the battlefield – one shooting flames and the other laying down heavy gunfire.  It got to the point that we were overwhelmed by these guys and constantly had to be revived to stay in the battle.  However, Insomniac provided a great tip when it came to defeating them – be sure to use your shielding whenever you can and fire away when you get a clear shot at these guys’ backpacks.  That’s the most vulnerable part of their armor, so chip away at them and blow them to pieces so you can move on.  Remember, TEAMWORK.  It’s essential.

We’ll see you guys next week for another edition of Rollin’ Back the Week’s Best Tips!
