Nintendo 3DS XL Revealed

Coming to US August 19th

This morning’s Nintendo Direct conference brought news of the brand new 3DS XL, set to hit shops on August 19th.

The handheld boasts the biggest screen to ever a grace a Nintendo handheld. The device’s top screen measures at 4.88-inches (if you go by the diagonal line), which is a whopping 90 per bigger than the 3DS’s.

The 3DS is a proportionately larger console, also weighing heavier than its predecessor at 336 grams (compared to the 225 grams of the 3DS).

The battery life of the 3DS XL is double that of the 3DS, being said to last somewhere between 3.5-6.5 hours for 3DS titles, and 6-10 for DS games.

It’s shipped with a 4GB SD card as standard, double the 2GB that comes with the 3DS.

The 3DS will launch with choices of color: red, blue and silver.

To accompany the launch of the console, Nintendo is releasing Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, TheatRhythm, and New Art Academy.

  • Battery life: 3.5-6.5 hours playing 3DS software, 6-10 hours playing DS software (depends on screen brightness)
